The “Enkh-Mend” National Program, jointly implemented by Mongolyn Alt (MAK) LLC and the National Center for Maternal and Child Health, was successfully carried out in Dalanzadgad, Umnugovi Province. The program aims to improve surgical care and medical services for mothers, children, and newborns.

Initiated by N. Tselmuun, President of MAK, the “Enkh-Mend” Program is the first nationwide initiative of its kind dedicated to enhancing maternal, child, and neonatal healthcare services. As part of the program, from May 28 to 29, specialized doctors from the National Center for Maternal and Child Health worked at the Regional Diagnostic and Treatment Center of Umnugovi Province, providing surgical care to 24 mothers, women, and children. This represented a meaningful step toward ensuring timely access to quality healthcare services for local residents.

This medical mission was particularly significant as seven types of surgeries and treatments were performed for the first time at the Regional Diagnostic and Treatment Center of Umnugovi Province. These included gynecological laparoscopic surgery, pediatric laparoscopic surgery, pediatric ear endoscopic procedures, and pediatric ophthalmic corrective surgery.

In addition, a total of 635 outpatient examinations were conducted for mothers, children, newborns, and women. As a result, 54 pediatric and neonatal specialized surgical cases, 47 maternal and women’s health cases, and 54 specialized surgical cases were identified. Patients were provided with appropriate recommendations for surgery or medication-based treatment and, where necessary, referred to the next level of medical care.

With the support of MAK, a four-day training program was also organized to strengthen the knowledge and skills of local doctors and enhance their capacity to provide timely and high-quality surgical care. A total of 96 doctors and medical specialists participated in the training, receiving 2.5 credit hours.

Furthermore, a consultation and case review session was held at the Regional Diagnostic and Treatment Center of Umnugovi Province regarding three pediatric and neonatal mortality cases recorded in 2026. During the session, practical guidance was provided on prevention measures, clinical experience, and further actions to be taken.

Enkh Mend

The “Enkh-Mend” Program is being implemented through a structured referral approach, beginning with preventive screenings and diagnostic services in soums, followed by surgical care at the provincial center when required.

Residents noted that the presence of specialized doctors in local communities not only helps prevent illnesses and complications but also saves families significant time and financial costs by reducing the need to travel to the capital for medical care.

According to national statistics, an average of 40,000 to 50,000 mothers give birth in Mongolia each year. In addition, neonatal mortality accounts for more than half of deaths among children under the age of five. In response to this critical need, MAK is implementing the “Enkh-Mend” Program nationwide as part of its social responsibility efforts to improve maternal, child, and neonatal healthcare services across 21 provinces and 330 soums of Mongolia.
