As part of its ongoing social responsibility initiatives, Mongolyn Alt (MAK) LLC has restored and officially handed over the Guardian Chapel of Amarbuyant Monastery, located in Elgen bag, Bayandelger soum of Bayankhongor aimag. The historic chapel, with a legacy spanning more than 330 years, has been rebuilt on its original foundations.
Established at the end of the 16th century, Amarbuyant Monastery has long been a significant center of spiritual and cultural life. It was once visited by the 13th Dalai Lama and renowned travelers including Roerich, Kozlov, and Ossendowski. At its height, the monastery accommodated more than 1,000 disciples and over 100 senior monks (gavj), offering diverse religious teachings. Today, its revival is marked by the presence of more than 60 monks, with successors continuing their training in countries such as India and Canada.
Amarbuyant Monastery remains a vital guardian of Mongolia’s spiritual, cultural, and historical heritage. It also serves as a central place of worship and ritual practice for over 50,000 residents across Bayantsagaan, Shinejinst, Bayangovi, and Bayanglig soums of Bayankhongor province, Gurvantes soum of Umnugovi province, and Chandmani, Erdene, Tsogt, and Tsetseg soums of Govi-Altai province.
For more than three decades, Mongolyn Alt (MAK) LLC has been committed to community development through projects that include the construction of schools, kindergartens, dormitories, and cultural centers. The restoration of this chapel similarly provides local residents with a sacred place to practice their faith, preserve religious traditions, and sustain cultural continuity.
The new structure was built using cement, blocks, windows, doors, and glass products manufactured by MAK’s construction materials plants. Importantly, the surviving ancient walls were not demolished but reinforced and carefully incorporated into the new design. These preserved historic walls now stand alongside sacred guardian deities, united under one roof for generations to come.
On behalf of the MAK team, we extend our sincere gratitude to all construction companies, service providers, craftsmen, and community members whose dedication, skills, and support made this restoration possible. We wish you good health, success, and prosperity.
May the blessings and protection of the sacred guardians guide you, and may their wisdom and compassion endure through the ages.
