Mining and Heavy Industry
"Mongolyn Alt" (MAK) LLC is committed to extracting the country’s valuable resources—such as coal, copper, and other raw materials—and processing them using advanced international technologies and standards to produce high value-added end products that substitute imports. In addition, the company is actively implementing oil exploration projects and developing hydrogen and by-product processing plants.
Nariinsukhait Mine
The Nariinsukhait coal mine, located in Gurvantes soum, Umnugovi province, began coal extraction and export in 2008. Equipped with a flotation beneficiation plant with a capacity of one million tons utilizing hydrocyclone technology, the mine fully utilizes its reserves without waste or pollution, supplying value-added products to the market and export. This contributes significantly to enhancing economic benefits.
Tsagaansuvarga Copper-Molybdenum Project
Within the scope of the Tsagaansuvarga open-pit mine, mineral processing plant, and cathode copper project, over 1,300 permanent jobs will be created. In addition, through 100–150 subcontractor companies, an estimated 5,000 to 7,500 new jobs will be generated. The project also has the potential to contribute an average of USD 150 million annually to the state and local budgets, totaling approximately USD 4 billion in tax and fee revenues for Mongolia over its lifetime.
Oil exploration and research
In 2012, a Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) was signed with the Government of Mongolia for the “Tukhum-X South” oil exploration block (24,552.46 sq. km) located in Dundgovi, Dornogovi, and Umnugovi provinces.
In 2023, one well was drilled and a 2D seismic survey was conducted on this block. A 3D seismic survey is planned for the future. The extracted products will be supplied to the oil refinery currently under construction in Dornogovi Province.
Pilot Plant for Hydrogen Production and By-product Processing Project
A joint Japan-Mongolia study confirmed the high significance of a project to construct a pilot plant based on the brown coal from Aduunchuluun in Dornod Province. The plant will produce dimethyl ether (DME) to help meet Ulaanbaatar’s heating demand.
