
Demonstration Plant for Hydrogen Production and
By-product Processing Project
MAK has initiated research and development for an integrated hydrogen production and by-product processing project aimed at producing hydrogen from coal as a future clean energy source. The project is expected to play a significant role in laying the foundation for Mongolia’s hydrogen industry. Under the development plan, annual methanol production of 250,000 tonnes is targeted from 2030, followed by hydrogen production of 150,000–300,000 tonnes per year from 2040, subject to market demand, with the output intended for export to Southeast Asian markets.

During the 10th Mongolia-Japan Public-Private Sector Consultative Meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed for cooperation with Unico International Corporation and Mitsui Co., Ltd.

A preliminary feasibility study for the project was developed in collaboration with Japan’s Unico International Corporation and Mitsui Co., Ltd.

A contract was signed with Japan’s Unico International Corporation to develop the preliminary feasibility study (pre-FS) for the project’s pilot plant.

Samples of brown coal from the Dornod region were subjected to comprehensive testing at an accredited laboratory of the technology supplier.
