"Enkh-Mend" Program

Mongolia’s first nationwide initiative dedicated to improving surgical care and medical services for mothers, children, and newborns.

Program Coverage

The "Enkh-Mend" National Program will be implemented across all 21 provinces and 330 soums of Mongolia. The program will engage local healthcare institutions, physicians, medical professionals, and target communities to improve the quality and accessibility of maternal, newborn, and child healthcare, including preventive care, diagnosis, and treatment.

Key Areas of the Program

Preventive Examinations and Diagnostic Services

Specialist physicians and healthcare professionals from the National Center for Maternal and Child Health (NCMCH) and other relevant institutions will provide services in soums and local communities. This will bring specialized examinations, diagnostics, medical consultations, and treatment for mothers, newborns, and children closer to residents and improve access to essential healthcare.

Surgical Care and Treatment

Medical teams from the NCMCH will work with provincial general hospitals and other appropriate levels of healthcare institutions to provide planned and urgent surgical care and treatment for mothers, newborns, and children. This collaboration will enable local residents to receive timely, high-quality medical services.

Capacity-Building for Local Healthcare Professionals

A phased capacity-building program will be delivered for physicians and healthcare professionals working at local health centres and provincial and soum-level medical institutions. Activities will include theoretical and practical training, workplace-based learning, professional and methodological guidance, experience sharing, and mentorship.

Support for Quality and Standards Improvement

To improve the quality and safety of healthcare services and strengthen compliance with relevant standards, the program will provide essential medical instruments, equipment, supplies, technological support, and other forms of assistance in phases. These efforts will enhance the operational capacity of local healthcare institutions.
