Energy Projects

Mongolyn Alt (MAK) LLC, in partnership with Huawei, a global technology leader from China, is implementing a large-scale renewable energy project in phases, comprising 100.3 MW of solar power generation capacity and 284.5 MWh of battery energy storage. Under the first phase of the project, MAK has commissioned three solar power plants with a combined installed capacity of 40 MW and 90 MWh of battery energy storage in Sergelen soum of Tuv aimag, Bayanjargalan soum of Dundgovi aimag, and Dalanjargalan soum of Dornogovi aimag. These facilities now supply approximately 40–60% of the electricity consumed by the company’s building materials manufacturing operations from renewable energy sources. Over the next 25 years, the three solar power plants are projected to generate approximately 1.53 billion kWh of clean electricity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with the company’s operations by an estimated 1.48 million tonnes.

Dalanjargalan Solar Power Plant

The solar power plant supplies up to 40% of the total electricity demand of the MAK Euro Cement Plant.

Khuutnar Solar Power Plant

Construction and installation were completed in February 2025. The plant operates through a dedicated connection and supplies electricity to the Khuut Mine.

Sergelen Solar Power Plant

The solar power plant supplies approximately 60% of the total electricity demand of the MAK Euro Block, MAK Euro Windoor, and MAK Euro Venti plants.

MAK plans to develop power plant projects with a combined installed capacity of 630 MW at the Khuut, Aduunchuluun, and Nariinsukhait mines, contributing to a more reliable and secure regional energy supply.

The power plant project will be implemented in phases to meet the future energy needs of the Tsagaan Suvarga Mine, copper concentrator, cathode copper plant, and the Dalanjargalan and Khuut industrial complexes. The project will also enhance the reliability of electricity supply to surrounding soums and local communities.

The thermal power plant project will be developed in phases to meet the future energy demand of the Dornod MAK Mine and industrial complex, strengthen the reliability of electricity supply across Mongolia’s eastern region, and contribute to reducing dependence on imported energy.

The power plant project will be implemented in phases to supply electricity to the Narynsukhait coal mine, coal processing plants, Shiveekhuren Terminal, and other mining and development projects. It will also strengthen power supply reliability for mining operations and consumers in the southern areas of Umnugovi and Bayankhongor provinces, while reducing dependence on high-cost imported electricity.
